CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Re-Striping of Duval Road:

Please subscribe to our e-mail list to receive the most current updates on this serious situation.

Update on The Quarries development (across Duval Road):

The 5 Neighborhoods United/Hyde Park Baptist Church Quarries Coordinating Committee met recently. Below are the items discussed and updates regarding The Quarries.

Construction Update:

Christian Life Center opened in April, 2006.  The Christian Life Center is a state of the art fitness and recreation center.  The CLC has been designed for all age groups to enjoy.  Memberships are available to non-Church members.  Amenities include:

  • Fellowship area
  • Full Kitchen
  • Conference room
  • Indoor playground
  • Two rooms for child care
  • Full size basketball court
  • 30 foot tall climbing wall
  • Men's and women's lockers with private showers
  • Bookstore / pro shop / snack bar
  • 3000 square feet of fitness equipment
  • Senior adult activities room
  • Two aerobics rooms
  • Two lane indoor walking track
  • Game room

School:  HPBC is in the fund raising stage for the HP Secondary School project.

We have submitted a modification to our existing site plan of the Secondary School to reflect the space planning and programming that the Secondary School has been working on for several years with the school administration, the parent-teacher group, and the architect.  The school is still programmed for a maximum of 600 students and the traffic impacts have not changed.

The changes we are proposing reduce the number of stories from three stories to two and increase the building footprint and the area for parking  to work more efficiently for us.  We are still under our allowed impervious cover.  A PDF of the existing plan and the proposed modifications to the school area are available along with the City staff comments on our initial submittal.  If you would like a copy, contact the Church office.  We would like to get our site development permit approved this Fall.  We would also like to get our building permit submitted this Fall, but since building permits are only valid for six months, that decision will be based on the success and timing of the fund raising efforts.

We are still in the "silent stage" of our fund raising efforts, but our Church Family has agreed to contribute funds towards the school project as part of our Strategic Futures Report.  A date has not been set for construction to begin, but we are hopeful that we can get everything in order for a construction start in early 2008.

Events:

         Sports Schedules:

Football season at the Quarries begins Friday night, Sept. 7th.  You can find the schedule for this season by going to www.hpbs.org.  Homecoming is scheduled for October 19th.  The school is planning homecoming festivities that evening. Otherwise, we are planning our typical Fall programming.

Other Issues:

Address:  The address for the Quarries is  11600 N. Mopac Blvd.

Trespassers:  There have been complaints from neighbors regarding people, mostly teenagers, parking along Balcones Woods Dr. and climbing fences into the Quarries.  Also, there have been issues with vandalism within the Quarries property.  HPBC is reluctant to prosecute neighborhood kids coming onto their property unless the neighborhoods request it.  Decision was made that HPBC will provide information for after hours contacts for neighbors to use to report suspicious trespassers.

Lights:  There have been some complaints about the lights on athletic fields.  HPBC committed to maintain control over previously agreed upon hours of operation of the facilities and lights.

Storm Warning System:  A lightning alert system has been installed to warn those on the athletic fields of approaching storms.  This is a loud siren.  Noise will be within city promulgated limits, according to HPBC, and the system will be operational during the hours that athletic fields are in use, generally 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Future Meetings:  The next meeting was left open and will be scheduled on an "as needed" basis.
